Have you ever been to a spa or resort and noticed that the towels looked a bit…different? Not the plush, thick-n-thirsty kind with thousands of tiny terry loops that most of us (here in America) are used to. Rather, I'm speaking of the thinner, structural, almost restrained-looking towels that appear as though they’ve just emerged from, well...a waffle iron.
Enter, waffle weave towels!
While much more common in Europe, waffle weave towels do have an adoring fan base here in the U.S. In fact, we have some customers who wouldn't dream of using anything else, whether for the shower or for drying dishes. Why the staunch devotion?
They’re absorbent. After washing, waffle weave towels form small honeycomb-like pockets, creating a larger surface area. This allows the fabric to draw moisture away, versus sort of “pushing the moisture around,” as sometimes can be the case with other towels. For lack of a better adjective, waffle weave towels are more “grippy" than traditional terry.
They dry quickly. Terry towels tend to be very thick, and thus hold onto water for a good while, sometimes what can seem like for dear life. (Haven't we all felt a towel that's been hung on the shower door and thought, Is this thing still wet?) The unique flat weave of a waffle towel allows it to dry much quicker—up to 40% quicker at that. Point scored for eco-friendliness!
They take up less storage space. The trim silhouette of waffle towels makes for a much less bulky environment, whether in the linen closet or washing machine. This low storage requirement makes them an ever-popular choice for spas and resorts, and is especially advantageous for the close quarters of boats and yachts, leaving one with abundantly more time for things other than pesky laundry...
They travel well. Because of the previous two points, if you’re someone who likes to always take a towel in your suitcase, know that waffle towels make exceptional travel companions. Speedy to dry and slender to pack…what more could one want from a towel or robe when traveling?

They exfoliate. A fabulous added benefit to using waffle weave towels: the exfoliation factor! The puffy, honeycombed surface provides crevices that create just the right texture for a mini facial and invigorating massage.
They get softer with each wash. Despite their initially rough-looking appearance, waffle towels, (good quality ones, that is!) become incredibly soft and snuggly over time.
- They’re oh-so-European. If you have overnight guests and place a tidy stack of waffle weave towels in their bathroom or bedroom, you’ll appear impossibly chic, international, and mysterious. (That’s our guess, anyway.)
