In the small village of Torrita di Siena, less than an hour from Siena and 15 minutes north of famed wine area Montepulciano, sits a ceramic shop so quaint, authentic, and exploding with color, that one cannot help but be lured inside by the sheer charm that beckons from its rustic brick storefront.
The brainchild of owner and artist Loretta Ferretti, Sial (coined from the names of Loretta's children, Silvia and Alberto) opened in 1997, born from a lifelong love of painting, and her desire to create items that reflect her beloved countryside landscape. Within the same walls as the retail shop is housed the company's extraordinary ceramics production.
The Ferretti family has lived in Torrita di Siena all their lives, with Loretta actually living above her jewel box of a store. We discovered this special vendor about five years ago on a buying trip to Tuscany. Ever since our first shipment arrived with its signature cheerfulness and vibrant colors, it's captured the hearts of customers...several of whom have turned into full-blown collectors!
The unique style of painting-in-relief is Loretta's specialty. Everything is drawn by hand with exquisite detail, showcasing Sial's hallmark Tuscan motif. Imagine serving food at your next dinner party with these fun serving utensils!
